Edwin Hawkins
Laboratory Head, WEHI
A/Prof. Edwin Hawkins is an immunologist and cancer biologist. His laboratory uses in vitro and in vivo live cell microscopy to understand development of immune disorders and hematological malignancies. He conducted his PhD in the Immunology division at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (Melbourne, Australia) then relocated to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Melbourne, Australia) where he studied mechanisms that regulate lymphocyte fate and development of leukemia. In 2012, Edwin moved to Imperial College London (U.K., London) with Cristina Lo Celso to establish 2-photon microscopy techniques that allow long-term tracking of immune cells and leukemia development in vivo. Edwin returned to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute as a laboratory head in October 2015 to establish his own research program focusing on developing new imaging techniques to understand hematopoiesis, inflammation and cancer
